Dr. Siddharth Yeshwant Wakankar, born in January 1947, is a distinguished scholar in Sanskrit and Indo-Aryan studies. A recipient of the prestigious Dr. Shridhar Ramakrishna Bhandarkar Prize, he has taught a wide range of subjects from Sanskrit Grammar and Ardhamagadhi to Ancient Indian History and Middle Indo-Aryan Linguistics across leading Indian universities. Dr. Wakankar has contributed nearly 80 research papers in multiple languages and has specialized in the study of ancient Indian games like chess and snakes and ladders. He is internationally recognized for his pioneering work in this area. His interests also span manuscriptology, scientific Sanskrit literature, and technical arts. As of 2000, he serves as a Research Officer at the Oriental Institute, M.S. University of Baroda.
