About the Book:

The Indian society has been historically shaped around traditions that center women in the family. Despite their crucial role in sustaining and ensuring the survival of society, women have often been neglected and suppressed. However, with numerous efforts from civil society and social reformers, the position and status of women in post-independent India has rapidly evolved. This transformation has been made possible through the provisions of the Constitution and the tireless efforts of social justice leaders. Notably, the 33 percent reservation for women in Panchayat Raj and Municipal Administration through the 73rd and 74th Amendments to the Indian Constitution has played a significant role in enhancing their public participation.

This book explores the role of women leaders in grass-roots governance, specifically within the context of Panchayat Raj. It investigates how social background, awareness, and participation affect the leadership and effectiveness of elected women leaders. The study focuses on rural Telangana, examining the challenges these women face in performing their leadership roles and the socio-economic and cultural factors that influence their contributions.
