About the Book:

Kathugal, the last of M.V. Venkatram’s writings, is a deeply introspective and ambitious novel that explores the eternal struggle between the forces of good and evil within the human mind. The story follows Mahalingam, an intellectual with refined sensibilities, as he battles mysterious evil forces that take the form of persistent sounds and voices heard within his ears. The novel details Mahalingam's desperate efforts to overcome this torment with the guidance of spiritual masters, seeking solace in his faith.

His journey is marked by intense inner turmoil, but in the end, it is his unwavering devotion to Lord Murugan that saves him from descending into madness. The novel portrays an eternal spiritual conflict—the battle between tamasic evil and sattvic good—echoing the timeless struggle of humankind since the fall from Eden.

Although the novel is rooted in personal struggles and experiences, it speaks to universal themes of faith, inner strength, and spiritual redemption.
