About the Book:
This insightful volume delves into the socio-cultural fabric of India through the lens of Hindi novels, with a strong focus on Dalit literature. Subhash Sharma masterfully weaves together themes from India's social sciences and literary traditions to uncover how fiction reflects and challenges societal structures. Drawing on celebrated authors such as Premchand, Jagdish Chandra, Giriraj Kishor, and Pandey Bechan Sharma ‘Ugra’, the book interrogates themes of contradiction, protest, and social justice from both historical and contextual perspectives.
By reconstructing the history of Hindi literature through a sociological approach, the author presents a powerful synthesis of philosophy, ideology, and literary development. Topics explored include the critical issues in Dalit narratives, the role of saint poets in the Bhakti movement, theories of the sociology of literature, and the structural dynamics of Hindi novels. This work serves as an essential academic resource for scholars, literary critics, and readers interested in the intersection of literature and social sciences.
