About the Book
With the rapid pace of economic growth, developmental activities often concentrate in specific regions, leading to significant regional disparities. Addressing this pressing concern, this comprehensive book delves into the core issues surrounding regional development and planning. It explores key concepts such as the nature and types of regions, regionalisation techniques, regional development theories, and strategies. The book also discusses the causes and consequences of regional imbalances in India and examines how multi-level and decentralised planning mechanisms—including Panchayati Raj institutions—can be harnessed to promote equitable growth.
This book is an essential academic resource for both undergraduate and postgraduate students in India. It is especially relevant for students of geography, urban planning, and public administration, as well as aspirants of civil services examinations like the UPSC and state PSCs.
