About the Book
Asia, home to over 61% of the world’s population, plays a significant role in global population growth. Despite this, there exists considerable variation in population size and fertility levels across the continent. While some Asian countries maintain the lowest fertility rates, others face challenges with high fertility. Family planning programs are crucial to population management in these diverse countries.

Population, Fertility, and Family Planning addresses the critical role of family planning in Asian nations, focusing on the contraceptive method mix across countries with varying fertility levels—low, moderate, and high. The book is based on secondary data from 38 Asian countries and investigates the evolution of family planning programs, government intervention, and the choices couples make regarding contraceptive methods.

This study explores the complex relationship between contraceptive use and the social, cultural, and governmental factors influencing these decisions. It provides a detailed analysis of how state policies shape contraceptive availability and usage, and how these factors influence fertility rates in the region.

Key themes in the book include:

  • The intersection of government policies and contraceptive choice.

  • The historical trajectory of family planning in Asian countries.

  • How fertility transitions are shaped by cultural, economic, and political factors.

The book is an essential read for researchers, demographers, policy makers, sociologists, and those involved in population control and family planning programs.
