Book Description

Embark on a captivating journey across six lands and into a world of kings, heroes, enchanted forests, magical creatures, and timeless legends. Once Upon A World brings together fascinating stories from England, Scotland, Spain, Romania, Russia, and India, viewed through the memories and experiences of a globe-trotting childhood.

From the legendary tales of King Arthur and Robin Hood to the mysterious Baba Yaga, the magical Firebird, the enchanting Selkie, and unforgettable stories from India, this collection celebrates the richness and diversity of storytelling across cultures. Some tales may feel familiar, while others offer new worlds to discover.

Although the landscapes, characters, and traditions change from one country to another, the stories share enduring themes of courage, love, family, kindness, hope, and the triumph of good over darkness. Through this remarkable cross-cultural journey, Once Upon A World reveals the universal connections that bring people and stories together, showing just how much the world truly is one.

About the Author

Rishi Dasgupta is an economist, author, guitarist, and storyteller whose life has unfolded across cultures. He holds a Master’s degree in Economics from the University of St Andrews in Scotland and has lived in India, Romania, Spain, Russia, Scotland, and England. Growing up across different countries has nurtured his curiosity about cultures, people, and the stories that connect them.

Rishi speaks English, Bengali, Hindi, Spanish, and French, and his multilingual upbringing has allowed him to experience the world through different cultural perspectives. Once Upon A World grew from this journey. While exploring the folklore of the countries he has known as home, Rishi discovered a remarkable connection: beneath different landscapes, languages, and traditions, people everywhere tell stories about universal themes such as courage, love, kindness, family, hope, and the triumph of good over darkness.

A passionate guitarist, Rishi has performed at COP26 Glasgow, the Nehru Centre London, the House of Commons, UK Parliament London, St. James Court Hotel, London, for Cancer Awareness, and the Indian High Commission in Edinburgh, among other venues. He has also co-authored three books on Indian mythology and inclusivity.

Through Once Upon A World, Rishi invites young readers to travel across continents, enter enchanted forests, meet legendary heroes and magical creatures, and discover that despite the world's many differences, it is connected by one extraordinary thread. The world has many stories, but at heart, they are all part of one human story.
