About the Book
Multiculturalism and National Identity explores the evolving relationship between multiculturalism and national identity, raising thought-provoking questions such as: Is multiculturalism compatible with national identity? Does multiculturalism merely reflect a tolerance of cultural diversity? And does globalization threaten the survival of multiculturalism?
In this insightful book, C. W. Watson delves into the debates surrounding multiculturalism and its implications for modern states, offering a critical examination of its pros and cons. Through various perspectives, Watson examines how multiculturalism plays out in different political and historical contexts, with attention to the varying attitudes towards cultural diversity in countries ranging from Europe and the USA to Southeast Asia and China.
The book focuses on key issues such as minority rights, education, religious tolerance, and the influence of global homogenization. By offering a balanced and concise overview, this book is an essential resource for those studying sociology, politics, cultural studies, and anthropology at both undergraduate and postgraduate levels.
