About the Book
Multiculturalism and National Identity explores the ongoing debates surrounding the concepts of multiculturalism and national identity, challenging the reader to consider whether multiculturalism is simply a tolerance of cultural diversity or if it is a more profound ideological stance. The book raises critical questions such as: Is multiculturalism compatible with national identity? Does globalization threaten the viability of multiculturalism?
Through a balanced and thought-provoking examination, the book addresses these questions in the context of modern states, highlighting the varying attitudes and responses to multiculturalism in different political and historical settings. From Europe and the USA to Southeast Asia and China, the book explores how multiculturalism plays out in diverse regions, reflecting on the tensions between minority rights, education, religious tolerance, and the trend toward global uniformity.
Drawing on both theoretical and practical examples, this concise work offers a comprehensive overview of multiculturalism, making it an essential resource for students and academics across fields such as sociology, politics, cultural studies, and anthropology.
