Details: Aryabhatiya (or Aryabhatiyam) is a Sanskrit astronomical treatise and the only known surviving work of the 5th-century Indian mathematician Aryabhata (476–550 CE). Aryabhata was a pioneering mathematician-astronomer of the classical age of Indian mathematics and astronomy, significantly influencing scientific astronomy in India. Based on textual parameters, philosopher Roger Billard estimated that the book was written around 510 CE. This translation, The Āryabhatīya of Āryabhata: An Ancient Indian Work on Mathematics and Astronomy, by Walter Eugene Clark, offers a preliminary study with extensive notes. Clark acknowledges the challenges of translation due to limited manuscript resources and hopes this work will encourage further scholarly engagement. Walter Eugene Clark (1881-1960) was a Professor of Sanskrit at Harvard University.
