About the Book
This comprehensive textbook offers a well-rounded exploration of the condition of women through a sociological lens, making it one of the first of its kind in the Indian academic landscape. Designed for graduate and post-graduate students of gender and women's studies, it provides a vivid and scholarly understanding of women’s roles, experiences, and challenges across various domains of life—ranging from work and education to law, health, religion, politics, leisure, technology, ecology, and management.
The book skillfully combines classical and contemporary feminist theories with interdisciplinary insights, offering a balanced framework for analyzing gender relations and social realities. It delves into the historical status of women and their evolving roles across different life stages, emphasizing the impact of patriarchy, legal reforms, globalization, and social movements on women's lives.
From ontological debates and feminist epistemology to practical research methods in gender studies—including qualitative, quantitative, and narrative analyses—this book equips students and researchers with critical tools and perspectives.
