Dr. Siddharth Yeshwant Wakankar (b. 1947) received his education in Mumbai and was awarded the Shridhar Ramakrishna Bhandarkar Prize for proficiency in Sanskrit Grammar at M.A. (1969) from Bombay University. He taught Sanskrit, Ardhamagadhi, and Ancient Indian History and Culture at various colleges affiliated with the Universities of Poona and Bombay. Later, he taught Middle Indo-Aryan Languages and Linguistics at the Post Graduate level in the M.S. University of Baroda (1982–84). His translation of the allegorical Apabhramśa work Mayanaparajayacariu (1971) by Harideva brought him recognition. He is currently the Deputy Director at the world-renowned Oriental Institute, Maharaja Sayajirao University of Baroda.
Dr. Wakankar has been invited to lecture at various universities, research institutes, museums, colleges, and libraries. He has been awarded the International Ramkrishna Sanskrit Award (2001) by the Canadian World Education Foundation, Ontario, Canada, in recognition of his outstanding contributions to Sanskrit research and training. He has participated in numerous national and international conferences and seminars.
