About the Book:
This book offers a critical sociological examination of the Right to Education in India, with a special focus on the state of Manipur. It explores how education as a fundamental entitlement is shaped by the intertwined forces of society, polity, and economy. While India has made significant strides in formalizing the Right to Education, systemic barriers rooted in social exclusion, cultural dynamics, and governance issues still hinder its universal realization.
Drawing on extensive field research, the book analyzes the role of both the state and civil society in advancing educational access. From government school failures to parental decision-making and the impact of NGOs, it uncovers the ground realities that complicate the delivery of quality schooling. The study underscores the idea that achieving meaningful educational reform requires broader societal transformation, not just policy shifts within the education sector.
This work is an essential resource for teachers, educationists, researchers, policy makers, and anyone invested in the discourse of educational rights, equity, and social justice.
