About the Book
We are witnessing a global shift in the “engines” of human activity from the Atlantic to the Asia-Pacific, where industrial output, political tensions, and militarization increasingly dominate the world stage. Alongside this, the intellectual and academic landscape—especially in the field of peace research—has evolved uniquely in this region. Peace Studies for the Twenty-First Century brings together powerful essays by leading and emerging peace scholars across the Asia-Pacific who present innovative paradigms in peace research and practice.
The book reflects deeply on the continued relevance of Gandhi's legacy in the context of economic globalization, peace education, and constitutional democracy. It also explores the aftermath of the 3/11 disaster in Japan, the criminality of nuclear weapons, and offers insight into reconciliation efforts between China and Japan, among other key regional challenges.
