About the Book
Female delinquency has often been overlooked compared to male delinquency, despite its significant prevalence. In India, defining female delinquency is a complex task due to the country’s diverse cultural and social norms. The book explores this issue in depth, focusing on the social, economic, and psychological factors that lead to female juvenile delinquency.
It highlights how many girls enter the juvenile justice system due to abusive home environments, with the society often labeling them as delinquents when they run away. The study sheds light on the socio-economic profile of these girls, the types of delinquent acts they commit, and the various factors that contribute to their involvement in crime.
By addressing the cultural and contextual differences in defining delinquency, this book provides a unique perspective on the issue in the Indian context. It also examines the victimization of girl children and the conditions that lead them into criminal behavior. Additionally, the study offers insights into the institutional treatment of female delinquents, the role of state mechanisms in their rehabilitation, and policy suggestions for preventing juvenile delinquency.
