About the Book
Dattatreya Ramachandra Bendre, widely acknowledged as one of the greatest poets in the Kannada language, is a household name in Karnataka. He made his debut in the Kannada poetic world with Gari, an impressive volume of lyrics, and went on to dominate the poetic scene for five decades. While influenced by global literary trends, Bendre remained deeply connected to Indian and Kannada traditions, breathing new life into them. He was awarded the Sahitya Akademi prize for Aralu Maralu in 1959, the prestigious Jnanpith award in 1974, and became a Fellow of the Sahitya Akademi. This monograph serves as the first comprehensive introduction to his life and work in English.
