About the Book
Contemporary Cultural Theory offers a comprehensive and accessible overview of cultural studies, tracing the evolution of cultural theory across six major paradigms: utilitarianism, culturalism and cultural materialism, critical theory and the sociology of culture, structuralist and post-structuralist semiology, difference theory, and postmodernism. The book outlines the social and discursive contexts that have shaped these paradigms and provides readers with the essential background needed to understand ongoing debates in the field.
The third edition of this work has been thoroughly revised, incorporating new material on new historicism, Slavoj Žižek, Pierre Bourdieu, Deleuze and Guattari, queer theory, black and Latino cultural studies, cultural policy, and posthumanism. This makes it an essential, up-to-date guide for students navigating the complexities of literary, social, and cultural theory.
Praise for the book includes glowing recommendations from Choice and the Times Literary Supplement, which highlight the work as an intelligent, clear, and well-documented resource for understanding the intricate movements in cultural theory.
