About the Book

This book explores the rich tradition of political thought in India, which spans over five millennia, and contrasts it with Western political ideologies. While Western political thought is often the dominant perspective, Indian political thinking has its own significant and distinguished history. Rooted in spiritual and ethical ideologies, Indian political thought encompasses religion, human life, social structures, and the state. The works of thinkers like Manu, Kautilya, and Shukra emphasize the interconnectedness of these domains.

The book also focuses on key political leaders and thinkers who contributed significantly to India's political discourse, including Raja Ram Mohan Roy, who critically analyzed the influence of Western civilization on India. It discusses the revival of Vedic culture by Maharshi Dayanand Saraswati, and the influence of leaders like Gopal Krishna Gokhale, Lokmanya Tilak, Mahatma Gandhi, Jawaharlal Nehru, and Dr. B.R. Ambedkar. Their ideologies played an essential role in shaping India's independence struggle and post-independence political landscape. Dr. M.N. Roy's secular and humanist vision for India is also explored.

This book is a crucial resource for students of political science, offering in-depth insight into Indian political thought and its development over the centuries.
