Our Story
Retail Maharaj wasn't started in a big office or with a large investment. It began with a simple idea—that customers deserve honest service and a place they can trust.
In 2014, our founder started Retail Maharaj from a small rented room in Kestopur, Kolkata, while working full-time in a private company. Every evening after work and on weekends was spent packing orders, answering customer queries, and slowly building what would eventually become Retail Maharaj.
One order became ten. Ten became hundreds.
The only thing that never changed was our belief that if you take care of your customers, they will take care of your business.
As more customers placed their trust in us, we expanded our operations and, in 2018, opened our office in College Street, Kolkata, allowing us to work more closely with publishers and suppliers.
During the COVID-19 pandemic, when the world slowed down, our team continued working to ensure books and essential products reached customers whenever possible. Those years reminded us that customer service isn't just about delivering products—it's about being dependable when people need you the most.
In 2022, we took another important step by starting our export business, making authentic Indian products available to customers around the world. Whether it's books, handicrafts, religious products, clothing, or wellness items, we now help people across the globe shop from India with confidence.
As the business continued to grow, we opened our New Delhi office in 2024, strengthening our relationships with publishers, manufacturers, and artisans across the country. This enabled us to source a wider range of authentic Indian products and serve customers more efficiently.
In 2026, Retail Maharaj became an active seller on the Government e-Marketplace (GeM), supplying products to government departments and educational institutions across India. It was another milestone that reflected the trust our company had earned over the years.
Today, Retail Maharaj is powered by a team of 50 dedicated people who share the same values on which the company was built. We serve customers across India and deliver Indian products to more than 50 countries, but our approach remains the same as it was in 2014.
We believe that every order represents someone's trust. Whether it's a single book or an international shipment, we treat every order with the same care and attention that we gave to our very first customer.
As we continue to grow, we also believe in giving back. Through our education initiative, we dedicate 10% of the net profit earned through our website to supporting underprivileged children studying in rural schools. It's our small way of ensuring that our success creates opportunities for others.
