Details: The book gives the early military history of Lahul. It started from the time of the first entry of the Lahulis in the World War-I in which about 200 soldiers were recruited, even though the population of Lahul, according to the Census of 1891, was less than 6,000. Looking at their performance in the War a company was raised immediately. They also showed their ability in the World War-II. But after the War most of the Lahulis came on release. In 1948 Pakistan raided on Kashmir. The threat was imminent on Ladakh. The remaining men from Lahul and a few others from Ladakh, Kinnaur and Kangra in Himachal Pradesh volunteered to go to Ladakh in the mid winter crossing Jozila pass, a feat not known to have been ever attempted. They saved Ladakh and also won laurels.
