The introduction, by Larkin himself, explains the circumstances of its publication and the influences which shaped its contents.\u003cbr\u003e\n      About the Author      \u003cbr\u003e\nPhilip Larkin was born in Coventry in 1922 and educated at King Henry VIII School, Coventry, and St John's College, Oxford. As well as his volumes of poems, which include\u003cbr\u003e\nThe Less Deceived,\u003cbr\u003e\nThe Whitsun Weddings and\u003cbr\u003e\nHigh Windows, he wrote two novels,\u003cbr\u003e\nJill\u003cbr\u003e\n and\u003cbr\u003e\nA Girl in Winter, and two books of collected journalism:\u003cbr\u003e\nAll What Jazz: A Record Diary and\u003cbr\u003e\n Required Writing: Miscellaneous Prose. He worked as a librarian at the University of Hull from 1955 until his death in 1985.
