Details: Punjabi literature in the last about one century has had a phenomenal development both in quantity and quality. It underwent a number of twists and turns but the most sustainable has been ‘progressivism’ of sorts which still inspires most of the Punjabi writers. There have been a few literary experiments also since the second half of the 20th century mostly under the influence of Western writers yet Punjabi cultural flavour remained the dominant motive force even among the scores of Punjabi writers settled abroad in the Western countries. The present book is a unique experiment in itself. It is a kind of running commentary in English on the state of Punjabi literature in the last about three decades. As encouraged by Mr. T.K. Ramasamy my friend and Associate Editor many of these hundred and fifty four pieces appeared in The Tribune, Chandigarh almost regularly since the nineties of the last century. Some others have appeared in the South Asia Post, an online fortnightly edited by my friend Gobind Thukral with which I was associated as an associate editor for about fifteen years. I owe them sincere gratitude.
