Details: About the Book
“Stories have a mind of their own,” says Ashis, “as to where, when, and how they would appear in my travels.” Gandhi and the London Cabby, and the stories along the road, is a delightful ensemble of ten such stories, which fell into place, sometimes stealthily, once with a bang, during his travels. The people in the stories are as diverse as the locations and the settings. Whether it is the Mademoiselle in the fashion-metropolis of Paris, or the chai-walla in a remote Himalayan forest. The common thread among them, as we read along, is that these characters, they all jump out of the pages of the book, and move and talk in front of our eyes. And keep us guessing, how they would turn out, till the last line. Reading Gandhi and the London Cabby is like experiencing the actions and emotions, live in Kashmir, or Jerusalem.
